Kitchen

Accordingly almost half of the total number of house fires start at the kitchen. Here where we prepare our meals is where we can find the appliances and utensils that are susceptible to starting a fire. Microwaves, ovens, toasters, stoves, coffee makers, pancake or waffle makers are some of the examples of these appliances usually found on the kitchen that when not attended properly could create danger.

Never leave your cooking unattended but if you have to better yet turn the heat to the lowest or turn it off for a while. If the cooking oil in a pan catches fire, turn off the heat immediately. if the microwave is on fire, unplug the power from the outlet and wait until the fire subsided before opening. It is always best to double check if the appliances are turned off or unplugged properly after using them

It is also advisable to do random check for all these kitchen appliances if they are still on good condition. The wires should be check if there aren't slit or crack. The stoves must always be in good condition to prevent further danger when cooking.

All of these must also be kept out of children's reach. We never know what these little ones would do after turning our backs or when left home. For safety purposes as early as possible educate the kids about the safety measures and how to properly use the appliances.

Living Room

This is the place in our home where we sit and relaxed in front of our fire place. Some home appliances are also found in the living room like television, home theatres, cd's and DVD players, stereo and more. Just like the kitchen appliances we also have to make sure that after using these they are properly turned off and unplugged. And a friendly reminder, do not overload the power board.

In a case of power outage of short circuits these home appliances could be affected and could also be a cause of fire. So the advice is before leaving home or before going to sleep make sure nothing is plug in to the power source. If these appliances overheat they could explode and may start a big fire that will engulf the whole house.

Chimneys must always be cleaned and regularly checked. Make sure that before leaving the living room, fire form the fire place is completely out. Do not place any fabric, paper or any flammable materials near it. They must be placed few feet away to avoid any untoward accidents.

If there are any lamps or candles in the living room make sure they are placed a distance away from any drapes or fabric. They must also have candle or lamp handle that cannot be melted and can withstand heat.

Bedroom

Another place where fire could possible start is on the bedroom. Personal gadgets are often brought inside the bedroom like laptops, cell phones and tablets. Do not overcharge these gadgets living it plugged in overnight. You will only end up overheating it causing to spark fire while you’re slumbering.

For those who love using lamps or candles while sleeping always make sure that they are placed over a fire proof handle and they must be placed away from any fabric or flammables item inside the bedroom.

Laundry Room

Washing machines and dryers must be shut off after use. The laundry area is a wet place and since we use electricity it is not safe to just let the power cords hanging loose on the power outlet. Irons must also be turned off and must be arranged properly. We know iron can burn fabric and when unattended causes fire.
